“ADEU is a system that centralizes energy production for heating, cooling and domestic hot water heating, servicing residential and commercial customers in the West Cambie neighborhood. It uses ground source heat pump technology to extract heat (geothermal energy) from the ground. In cooling mode during the summer months, the energy flow is reversed and heat is pumped into the ground.
Sustainable energy systems such as this provide a number of benefits for the community including using renewable sources of energy, increasing energy security by reducing reliance on external energy sources, and substantially reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The ADEU technology is proven and reliable as it has built in backup systems and performance is monitored continuously. The utility provides an ongoing new revenue source for the City and more affordable energy costs for its clients.”
