Switch2 managed the installation of a new (pay-as-you-go) PAYG system into 6,000 homes for Sheffield City Council. This involved a huge customer engagement programme across the city to inform and educate residents. Success has meant the installation programme was carried out smoothly and residents feel they have control over their energy use, are saving money and contributing to carbon reduction. We tailored our approach to Sheffield, employing local people who understood the issues, and communicated with residents in many different ways. We engaged with them right from the start of the project so that any problems were dealt with quickly, and residents came to trust us and know us. Now the city-wide project is nearly complete we continue to work hard to maintain the high level of customer service that residents are now used to, through the continuing use of our Resident Liaison Officers in Sheffield and our dedicated customer service centre that can handle multiple enquiries. Furthermore, to date, we have received zero complaints for operation disruption. Residents are now educated about their energy use and confident with the technology, and Sheffield City Council is satisfied with the cost savings that the new system gives their customers.
